Senior Product Manager 2 - Transportation Management System
Job Description
The Senior Product Manager 2 -Transportation Management System (TMS) is a senior leader on the Supply Chain Product Management team, responsible for owning the strategy, roadmap, and end-to-end delivery of TMS capabilities that power Nordstrom's transportation network. This role requires deep TMS product expertise combined with the ability to operate at speed across multiple concurrent workstreams in a complex, high-stakes supply chain environment. The ideal candidate brings a strong point of view on how TMS platforms drive transportation efficiency, carrier execution, and cost optimization and knows how to translate that expertise into aligned roadmaps that move fast and deliver measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Roadmap Ownership
- Define and own the TMS product roadmap, balancing near-term delivery commitments with long-term platform capability investments aligned to transportation and supply chain strategy.
- Lead strategic planning cycles including roadmap reviews, prioritization frameworks, and business case development for TMS initiatives across domestic parcel and international freight parcel.
- Partner with transportation operations, carrier management, finance, and engineering leaders to identify capability gaps, quantify opportunity, and sequence investments for maximum business impact.
- Monitor and communicate against TMS product KPIs including shipment execution accuracy, carrier compliance rates, tender acceptance, cost-per-shipment, and on-time performance.
- Drive alignment across stakeholders at all levels — from operations teams to executive leadership, ensuring the TMS roadmap reflects both strategic intent and operational reality.
Product Development & Delivery
- Lead end-to-end product lifecycle for TMS features and platform enhancements, from discovery and requirements through release and post-launch validation.
- Define clear, actionable requirements including user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria, and data specifications for TMS configuration, automation, rating, routing, and carrier integration capabilities.
- Manage a complex, multi-priority backlog with the ability to run several features and launches simultaneously without sacrificing quality or stakeholder alignment.
- Partner closely with engineering, QA, and data teams to maintain feature integrity through development cycles and drive rapid resolution of blockers.
- Own UAT and E2E Testing strategy and execution in partnership with operations and business stakeholders, ensuring TMS capabilities perform reliably before go-live.
Cross-Functional Alignment & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across transportation operations, carrier partnerships, fulfillment, finance, engineering, and program management to align on priorities and dependencies.
- Lead structured cross-functional forums to surface risks, resolve conflicts, and maintain shared accountability for TMS program outcomes.
- Translate complex TMS platform topics into clear, concise communications for executive and non-technical audiences, including steering committees and senior leadership reviews.
- Partner with TPMs and engineering leads to maintain program transparency, flag go-live risks early, and drive mitigation plans with urgency.
- Navigate vendor relationships, including third-party TMS platform partners, to align product direction, surface roadmap dependencies, and escalate issues effectively.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement of TMS capabilities through structured analysis of transportation performance data, incident retrospectives, and stakeholder feedback loops.
- Design and execute experimentation and validation plans to test TMS configuration changes, routing rule updates, and carrier selection logic across network nodes.
- Build operational guardrails, change management plans, and adoption frameworks to ensure TMS capabilities are consistently used and trusted by operations teams.
- Support incident response and root cause analysis for TMS-related disruptions, driving durable fixes over temporary workarounds.
Qualifications
Required
- 6+ years of product management experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex, enterprise-scale platform products.
- Direct experience owning or deeply contributing to Transportation Management System products, including capabilities such as rating, routing, carrier integration, tendering, or financial settlement.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent product launches in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity environment without loss of quality or stakeholder alignment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data to drive prioritization, identify root causes, and measure product outcomes.
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership skills, with a track record of aligning diverse stakeholders, including operations, engineering, finance, and executive leadership around a shared product direction.
- Proficiency in Agile methodologies, backlog management, and structured requirements definition.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred
- 2 Years of experience in Transportation space.
- 2 years of experience in TMS.
- Supply chain domain expertise spanning fulfillment, carrier management, last-mile delivery, or transportation operations.
- Experience managing external vendor relationships and navigating third-party platform roadmaps.
- Familiarity with carrier API integrations, EDI standards, and transportation data flows.
- Background in omnichannel retail or multi-node fulfillment networks.
- MBA or advanced certification in Product Management (e.g., CSPO, Pragmatic Institute).
