Senior Engineering Manager - Pricing & Availability - HYBRID
Managers within Technology at Nordstrom help create an inspiring workplace where talented people are empowered to drive exceptional customer experiences and business results. Through broad industry and practice knowledge and hands-on technical management experience, the Manager guides a team of professionals to execute the strategy and tactics that deliver desired results.
This role leads a team within Nordstrom's Selling Control & Pricing Engineering organization. Your team ensures that customers can actually buy the products they want - owning the systems that determine item availability, manage selling business rules, and surface inventory across channels. When your systems work well, millions of SKUs are sellable; when they don't, revenue stops.
What makes this role unique:
You'll also have the opportunity to shape an emerging AI-powered agent - a generative AI product that orchestrates real-time calls across multiple production APIs to diagnose why items aren't purchasable. This is greenfield work with executive visibility and growing business adoption, with a roadmap toward proactive insights and automated remediation.
A day in the life…
- Lead a team of engineers responsible for selling business rules, item availability, and unsellable inventory detection systems
- Shape the roadmap for AI-powered item diagnostics — from reactive troubleshooting toward proactive detection and automated fixes
- Drive technical strategy for availability modernization initiatives with direct business impact
- Partner with Product, Merchandising, and Operations to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
- Manage dependencies across peer teams in a tightly integrated ecosystem (pricing, offers, selling runtime)
- Build and retain a high-performing team — hiring, coaching, and developing engineers
- Own operational excellence: availability SLAs, incident response, and continuous improvement
- Contribute to architecture decisions and maintain hands-on awareness of system health
You own this if you have…
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including building distributed systems at scale
- 3+ years leading engineering teams; experience managing managers is a plus
- Track record of shipping production systems that handle high throughput and require high availability
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), microservices, and event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts - bonus if you've shipped AI-powered products or worked with LLMs
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices: CI/CD, observability, alerting, and incident management
- Strong project management instincts - able to drive roadmaps, manage dependencies, and keep complex initiatives on track
- Excellent communication skills - can translate technical complexity for business stakeholders
- Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science or related experience required.
