Senior Engineer 2 - Customer Experience Team (Web, Mobile, and Backend) - Hybrid in Seattle

As a Senior Engineer II, you'll build technology that powers exceptional shopping experiences for millions of Nordstrom customers. You'll work with talented engineers to create innovative solutions that directly impact how customers discover, shop, and engage with our brands. 

In the APEX organization, our teams build and maintain Nordstrom's customer-facing digital experiences across web and native mobile platforms (iOS and Android) and the digital services layer that powers them. We deliver seamless shopping journeys for Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack through mobile apps, websites, and the APIs behind the scenes. 

In this role, you'll design and build solutions for features spanning web, mobile, and backend services enabling customers to discover products, manage accounts, complete purchases, and engage with Nordstrom's digital ecosystem. You'll contribute to cross-organizational technical initiatives and architectural decisions, partnering with engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that work flawlessly across platforms. 

You'll champion code quality, design consistency, and user experience excellence while mentoring other engineers and driving best practices across your team. You'll drive innovative development practices through the discovery and application of AI tools and emerging technologies. Your work will help shape the technical direction of systems connecting mobile apps, web experiences, and APIs, ensuring performance, reliability, and innovation across every digital touchpoint. 

 

A day in the life… 

  • Demonstrate competence in engineering concepts and theories, combining them with business understanding to design, document and implement clean, robust, and scalable solutions to complex business problems 

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams, business stakeholders, as well as program and product managers to make technical decisions and influence priorities and tradeoffs that enable solutions to achieve short and long-term business objectives

  • Take ownership of systems or designs that span multiple people's work, breaking work into smaller tasks for more junior engineers to support

  • Maintain a high bar for code quality, testing and automation while finding opportunities to continuously improve them 

  • Drive design and code reviews, ensuring the team ships high quality, scalable, maintainable, and well-tested code 

  • Maintain a DevOps mindset, promoting cloud-oriented solutions while implementing and supporting monitoring, alerting, CI/CD pipelines as well as the team’s Cloud infrastructure 

You own this if you have… 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably computer science, or equivalent  

  • 6+ years of professional experience in delivering quality software across web, mobile, and backend services  

  • Excellent proficiency in mobile development with iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose)  

  • Excellent experience with React.js for building modern web applications  

  • Excellent proficiency in backend development (with Java Node.js) for building APIs and digital services  

  • Experience building enterprise-level web and mobile applications from scratch, with demonstrated deep understanding of technology choices across platforms  

  • Experience with RESTful architecture and microservices that support both web and native mobile clients  

  • Deep experience with system design, architecture, scaling, and performance testing across mobile, web and backend services  

  • Experience with Cloud technologies, proficiency with AWS a plus  

  • Experience with databases. Familiarity with NoSQL databases is a plus  

  • Familiarity with CI/CD and testing tools for mobile and web deployments. Experience with Kubernetes and Docker is a plus. 

  • Expert-level understanding of computer science fundamentals and mobile-first design principles

  • Design and support full stack solutions (design, implementation, and support) 

  • Work across domains and full stack of technologies (Web UI, APIs, and Infrastructure) 

  • Build reusable cross-platform components for future use 

  • Explore and champion new techniques including AI-powered development tools 

  • Translate requirements, designs and wireframes into recommended solution approaches enabling high quality code 

  • Work with diverse, collaborative, cross-functional teams

NOTE:   This position is offered as a hybrid role in the Seattle, WA area.  You must be able to work in office at the Nordstrom Seattle office a minimum of 4 days/week to be considered for this position.

Pay Range Details

Pay offers are dependent on the location, as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$166,000.00 - $258,000.00 Annual

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
