Network Security Engineer 1 (Hybrid - Seattle, WA)

As a Network Security Engineer 1 at Nordstrom, you will be responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of network security infrastructure, while also assisting in the integration and management of loss prevention technologies such as cameras, NVRs (Network Video Recorders), and related systems. You will collaborate with team members to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of systems that protect critical assets.

The ideal candidate is an eager learner with foundational technical expertise, operational discipline, and a team-oriented mindset. You should be passionate about growing your skills in network security and loss prevention technologies while contributing to a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

This role is offered as hybrid in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be available to work in office at the Nordstrom corporate headquarters a minimum of 4 days/week to be considered for this position.

A day in the life...

Security Infrastructure Support

  • Contribute to the deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management of on-premises and cloud security systems, including firewalls, load balancers, VPN solutions, and related technologies.

  • Support implementation and optimization of loss-prevention systems (e.g., IP cameras, NVRs, analytics platforms) to strengthen monitoring and investigative capabilities.

Observability

  • Assist in deploying and tuning observability platforms to ensure operational visibility and performance optimization of security and surveillance systems.

  • Leverage tools such as Splunk to extract actionable insights from system health metrics and security event data.

Programming & Automation

  • Possess working knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript, or Go) with the ability to develop basic scripts or utilities for automation.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative development.

Infrastructure Fundamentals

  • Foundational understanding of networking, server infrastructure, cloud platforms, or containerization acquired through coursework, labs, or projects.

  • Interest in modern infrastructure architectures and service delivery models.

Collaboration & Growth Mindset

  • Strong communication skills: ability to engage in collaborative problem-solving and integrate feedback into work output.

  • Demonstrated curiosity and persistence in diagnosing issues and improving system efficiency.

​Infrastructure as Code (IaC):

  • Exposure to IaC frameworks (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation) with a willingness to advance skills in automated infrastructure provisioning and management.

Operational Readiness:

  • Participate in on-call rotations under senior engineer guidance to address production and security incidents.

  • Have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience (Required)

  • Are a motivated individual eager to grow technical skills and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

  • Are passionate about network security and loss prevention technology, willing to take on challenges and learn from experienced professionals.

  • Are a team player who values operational excellence and is committed to delivering high-quality results.

  • Have experience or academic exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP, including basic deployment and configuration tasks.

  • Are familiar with container ecosystems like Docker, Kubernetes (preferred).

  • Have prior internship experience and are a contributor to open-source initiatives or technical competitions such as hackathons (preferred).

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below has been provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different for other locations. 
Pay offers are dependent on the location, as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$104,500.00 - $162,500.00 Annual

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
