Engineer 1 - Platform Engineer, Productivity & Collaboration (Hybrid - Seattle, WA)
The Platform Engineer 1 is a key member of the Productivity and Collaboration Platforms team, responsible for designing, developing, and supporting solutions across our portfolio of enterprise platforms: SharePoint, MS Teams, Exchange, and Slack, as well as extending to our extended org which includes ServiceNow, Jira, and endpoint devices. This role is focused on building self-service capabilities that empower partner teams, reduce escalations, and drive operational excellence. The Platform Engineer 1 will move beyond reactive support, proactively identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and deliver scalable solutions that deflect common issues before they reach escalation.
This role is offered as hybrid in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be available to work in office at the Nordstrom corporate headquarters a minimum of 4 days/week to be considered for this position.
A day in the life...
Key Responsibilities:
Build deployment packages for Software Center and manage Group Policy Objects
Design, develop, and implement automation solutions and integrations across SharePoint, MS Teams, Exchange, Slack, and ServiceNow to enable self-service and reduce manual escalations.
Analyze incident and request data to identify patterns and opportunities for automation or process improvement.
Collaborate with other engineers and partner teams to gather requirements, define solution architectures, and deliver robust, maintainable code.
Build and maintain scripts, bots, workflows, and connectors using PowerShell, Power Automate, GitHub, and other relevant tools.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, and self-service resources for end users and partner teams.
Participate in the incident response process for complex or high-impact issues that require engineering intervention.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of monitoring, alerting, and reporting for supported platforms and services.
Stay current with platform updates, best practices, and emerging technologies in the collaboration and automation space.
Support the team’s transition from reactive support to proactive engineering by mentoring others and sharing knowledge.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent degree.
1+ years of experience with deploying apps with Microsoft Software Center.
1+ years of experience managing Group Policy Objects
1+ years of experience in a technical engineering role supporting enterprise collaboration platforms (SharePoint, MS Teams, ServiceNow, Jira, Exchange, Slack, or similar).
Experience designing, building, and maintaining automations, scripts, or integrations using PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or similar tools.
Familiarity with REST APIs, webhooks, and platform-specific SDKs for integration work.
Understanding of ITSM processes and experience working with incident, request, and change management workflows.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and deliver sustainable solutions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps), ServiceNow development, or Jira administration.
Familiarity with cloud computing environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Experience with source control systems (specifically GitHub) and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of security best practices for collaboration platforms and automation.
