Director - Internal Investigations - Seattle
The Director of Internal Investigations is the enterprise leader responsible for strategy, governance, execution, and continuous improvement of the Internal Theft Program and Violence in the Workplace (VIW) Program. This role leads a high‑performing investigations organization, ensuring best‑in‑class case development, risk mitigation, and alignment with enterprise values and objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Leadership & Strategy
- Establish and lead the strategic direction for the Internal Investigations function.
- Serve as enterprise authority for internal theft and workplace violence prevention.
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships with HR, Legal, Risk, Technology, Supply Chain, and Store Leadership.
- Modernize investigative processes using data, technology, and industry best practices.
Internal Theft Program Ownership
- Own the enterprise leadership for the Internal Theft Program by setting investigative standards and shaping case governance frameworks.
- Oversee shrink analytics, data interpretation, and risk identification.
- Drive the vision, development and ownership of KPI dashboards and executive reporting in partnership with analytics teams.
- Partner with Asset Protection Technology and Operations to envision and advance investigative tools and system capabilities that strengthen enterprise theft mitigation.
Violence in the Workplace (VIW) Program Leadership
- Lead workplace violence prevention and response protocols.
- Oversee threat assessment, incident triage, and interdepartmental safety alignment.
- Deliver training, analysis of regulatory changes, and compliance oversight.

Operational Excellence & Governance
- Provide strategic direction for the development and continuous improvement of enterprise investigative policies and playbooks, ensuring they reflect evolving risks, best practices, and organizational priorities.
- Establish governance mechanisms that uphold legal, ethical, and corporate standards, guiding teams through ambiguous or high stakes compliance scenarios.
- Oversee analytical approaches to auditing investigative performance, helping teams interpret complex quality and cycle time signals to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

- Identify emerging theft trends and develop and recommend mitigation tactics to senior leadership.
- Lead and advise on the most complex, high risk, or sensitive investigations, applying sound judgment and asking probing questions that help teams examine issues from multiple angles and navigate incomplete or conflicting information.
FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
- Expertise in Asset Protection systems (case management, alarms, CCTV, card access)
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and data analysis tools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7–10+ years in Retail Asset Protection or Loss Prevention, Corporate Investigations, or related fields.
- 5+ years in multi-site or retail investigation leadership roles preferred
- Strong experience in internal theft case development and workplace violence response
- Leadership experience managing multi‑level investigative teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and partnership skills.
- High integrity and discretion handling sensitive matters.
- Interview certification, CFI preferred.
- Threat assessment training (ATAP) and experience in threat assessment preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 40% depending on business needs.
- Experience managing critical incidents.
